*Carolinas Red Fox
Rest in Peace
(1985 - 2005)

The Welsh stallion Carolinas Red Fox passed away on the morning of
November 15 due to complications from Cushings disease and laminitis. The
1985 Welsh Section B stallion by Carolinas Purple Emperor (Solway Master
Bronze x Eden Blue Bunting) out of Downland Dresden (Downland Chevalier x
Downland Dignity) was imported from Wales as a yearling by Nancy Jane
Reed of Land's End Farm in Centreville, MD. Red Fox had numerous
wins on the line in England before arriving in the States. With limited
showing, he was the Eastern Welsh Circuit and WPCSA National Champion
Section B stallion in 1993, and he was awarded his WPCSA Sire Legion of
Merit last year.
While Red Fox has definitely left his mark on the Welsh breed in general
in this country, he will probably be most remembered for the huge impact
he has had on hunter pony breeding in the United States. His get have
been winners at "A" circuit hunter shows all over the country, have been
USEF national hunter pony champions and have won numerous times on the
line at various prestigious hunter pony breeding shows like Devon and
Upperville. In 2002, Carolina's Red Fox was the USEF #1 Hunter Pony Sire
and has been in the top two or three for the last five years. He is
currently ranked #2.
His stature as a leading sire of Welsh and hunter ponies is without
question, but equally important was his wonderful attitude and loving
personality which he has consistently passed on to his offspring. Reed
says he has always been a gentleman in every way.
